Mumbai-The Showcase of India

by - Rachna / October 4th, 2012 / Tags: , / categories: Guest Blogger, Guest Blogs, Photo Tours /

“This city is a showcase of India and, indeed, the World. It has a strong flavor of the energy, spirit and aspirations of countless of peoples, most of whom are immigrants or their descendants. The world’s poorest and the richest live here as equals, walking with the same stride, carrying the same pride, and riding the same locals. It is a city which lives on its own rules and with its own dynamics. This is Atlantis reincarnate, but unlike the mythical Greek city, even Gods have failed to shake it. This is Bombay.”- Kartik, from http://k-khanabadosh.blogspot.com

“During our trek towards Tirund (out final destination was a certain waterfall on the way). It was a three hour walk and was tiring and dangerous and times. The falls were pretty secluded, very few people and no Indian when we reached there.” By Kartik from K-khanabadosh.blogspot.com

In last decade, Vietnam has emerged as one of the hottest tourist destination in South East Asia alluring backpackers, beach lovers, and nature enthusiasts from all across the world. Though kayaking trips and adventure tours are the highlights of Vietnam tourism, but any expedition in this nature’s paradise is just incomplete without savoring the Vietnamese street food.

The gourmands of fish sauce, fresh herbs, soy paste, fruits and vegetable love the Vietnamese style of cooking. Traditional Vietnamese cuisine is one of the healthiest cuisines in the world because of the Vietnamese recipes utilize minimal oil and heavily rely upon fresh ingredients.

“Although too short as always, these two weeks through bustling Saigon, chilled Mui Ne, quaint Haiphong, magical Halong Bay, and surprisingly charming Hanoi, allowed us to sample a good number of the nation’s specialties, from both food stalls right on the pavement and more conventional restaurants. Well, it clearly turns out that street eats provided us with the best flavours and the most memorable experiences…” Florence Anna, Global Gourmande.

Please welcome our guest blogger, Victoria from Victoria’s London.

A visit to Covent Garden should be on every tourist’s visiting agenda. This area offers a wide range of restaurants, stores and hotels. It is close to the Royal Opera House, as well as many other theaters. The central piazza is constantly buzzing with street performers and musicians, creating the perfect inner city atmosphere.

One of the highlights of visiting Covent Garden is the famous parisian tea salon Laduree. When you enter this place, you cannot help feeling like you are in a street café in Paris. The pastel colors and soft classical music makes the atmosphere incredibly idyllic. And of course, the best macaroons in London can be found here!

Please welcome our guest blogger, D. Nambiar from Tipsy from the trip

When you make a trip to Hollywood, you wish you would bump into the who’s who of tinsel town or at least catch a glimpse of a few of them. Unfortunately they don’t hang out on Hollywood Boulevard or Universal Studios. Take a Beverly Hills tour and you still don’t — almost often — get to see them even looking out their windows, let alone pull out of their driveways.

If you can drop the dream of collecting autographs and be content with just taking a few pictures with your favourite on-screen hunks and divas, you might as well head to Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. You’ll get to see some sports celebrities and pop icons too. There’s also an Oval Office with America’s first black President in it.

I was marvelled by the craftsmanship of these life size images. Most of them seemed perfect. My favourites at Tussauds were Jackie Chan, Tiger Woods, Bruce Willis, Joan Rivers, Lady Gaga, Cameron Diaz, Anjelina Jolie and … (honestly I could just go on). On the other hand, there were a few figures — that I thought — they could have done a better job on, considering flawlessness of most of the wax figures this place exhibits. If you haven’t had a chance to check out a Tussauds Museum as yet, here are some images from my visit to the museum in Hollywood.

About Tussauds
Madame Tussauds Wax Museums can be found in London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Shanghai among several other places around the world. The United States of
America is home to four of the branches of this famous wax museum: Hollywood, Las Vegas, New York and Washington DC. These museums continue to
use the same methods that Madame Tussaud used to make her wax models, thereby keeping her tradition alive.

History of has it  that Marie Tussaud (then Anna Maria Grosholtz) was born in France in 1761. She got her first few lessons in wax sculpture from Dr. Philippe Curtius who had employed Marie’s mother as a housekeeper. Her work later took her to Paris and then London where she died 1850. The first Madame Tussauds museum was set up in London in 1835.

Moscow Arbat Street

by - Rachna / December 30th, 2011 / Tags: , , / categories: Guest Blogs, Photo Tours /

Moscow is a well-known city in the world, not only because it is a major political, economic, cultural, scientific, religious, financial, educational, and transportation centre of Russia and the continent, but also because it is one of the most expensive cities in the world and is  home to the greatest number of billionaires.

Let’s welcome our guest blogger, Olga Borte from See You in Moscow to share information about Arbat Street in Moscow from the eyes of a Muscovite. She’ll describe about Arbat, an iconic Moscow street which  is approximately one-kilometer long pedestrian street in the historical center of Moscow.

I love Arbat street at any time. But especially I love it in early morning on Sunday. This time there’re almost no people. A couple of years ago the Moscow government removed all the street vendors and street artists from Arbat. And sometimes you can see Moscow Arbat in such a way.

Arbat Street

But usually it looks in such a way. A lot of foreigners and guests of the city. So now for Muscovites it’s a kind of «mauvais ton» to love Moscow Arbat street. But I do)

The most recognized places on Arbat are

  • * monument to Pushkin and Goncharova,
  • * monument to Bulat Okudzhava,
  • * The Wall of Peace
  • * Victor Tsoi’s Wall,
  • * Vakhtangov theatre,
  • * personalized tiles on the sidewalk,
  • * gold Turandot,
  • * a huge number of small souvenir shops
  • * and of course the remnants of old Moscow’s architecture.

By the way the government is going to restore the authentic image of Arbat. But not soon of course. Now Arbat is one of two pedestrian streets in Moscow, the second is Kamergersky lane.

The monument to great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and his wife Natalia Goncharova is erected opposite the Arbat house where they used to live for several month. One can see that Natalia was really beautiful woman)

Bulat Okudzhava’s monument

The monument to romantic Moscow singer Bulat Okudzhava has grown on Arbat in 2002. And actually it’s a monument to old intellectual Moscow which is gradually moving away. This sculptural composition is considered as one of the most successful of the recent ones in Moscow. It shows the narrow streets of Moscow praised in the songs by Okudzhava.

The singer goes out of the yard toward the dawn. Arches are covered with quotations from his poems that are made in the style of simple yard inscriptions on the walls.

The Wall of Peace

American artist Caroline Marx visited Moscow on September 1990. Then she implemented the project «The Wall of Peace». This day any passer-by from small children to seniors could take the paint, tile and paint that he/she wanted on world peace. Later the tiles were burned and laid out on the wall on the Arbat. Unfortunately no one watched the wall and it was quickly covered with vandal inscriptions. But whatever you can see the original child-like naive pictures on the tiles.

Victor Tsoi’s Wall

Viktor Tsoi is a cult Soviet rock musician, founder of «Kino» group who died tragically in a car accident at the age of 28 (1990th). Tsoi’s death was a shock to a lot of his fans, some of them even committed suicide. Hundreds of people attended the Victor’s funeral. Nowadays song by Tsoi remain popular both among his contemporaries and young people.

It is believed that Victor’s death even contributed to the popularity of «Kino» and created a sort of cult of tragically died hero. Tsoi’s Wall on Arbat street is a unique place of pilgrimage for fans who are still made on it the inscriptions for declarate the love to his idol. The Moscow government used to try to cause the wall in order but they haven’t decided on it yet. Now the Tsoi’s wall is a kind of monument to informal Soviet youth.

Right close to the wall there’re the gates of Moscow military court. Officials usually bring criminals to trial through them.

Personalized tiles

Personalized tiles on the Arbat sidewalk aren’t remarkable in fact. They are sold and everyone can buy an inscription to «immortalize» himself. So there’re wedding inscriptions, tiles with congratulations to private persons and even advertising ones. But as I already said Moscow government is going to rebuild all the street so this tiles can be removed.

A lot of artists specializing in city landscapes have been painting Arbat. So we can see how the street used to look in different times.
